Andrew J. Mertzenich, founder and managing attorney, graduated cum laude with a degree in Business Administration. He then attended Northern Illinois University College of Law and received his Juris Doctor magna cum laude.

In law school, Andrew graduated in the top 10% of the class and was Managing Editor for the Northern Illinois University Law Review. He also served as a commissioner on Northern Illinois University’s Presidential Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.
Andrew’s passion has been to work in estate planning. He brings much experience in this area, and an approach that seamlessly blends a commitment to his clients and an understanding of their nuanced needs. He particularly enjoys helping LGBTQ+ individuals and families grow and thrive.

​Outside of law, Andrew is a passionate musician. He is Director of Traditional Music at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rockford, IL. He is also Principal Organist at Court Street United Methodist Church in Rockford, IL, where he performs regularly. Andrew also volunteers with the Land of Lincoln Theatre Organ Society, helping to maintain and show off the Grande Barton Organ at Rockford’s historic Coronado Theater.
As a musician, he is a regular performer at the Coronado Theatre, and has been a featured guest of the Rockford Symphony Orchestra. He also served as Interim Artistic Director and Conductor of the Ecumenical Community Handbell Organization (ECHO) and conducted the Westminster Presbyterian Community Orchestra in their 2021/22 Holiday Concerts.

He splits his time between Rockford and Belvidere with his husband, Cody.
